Owen Hargreaves has urged Premier League giants Manchester United to make a big statement in the transfer market by signing three quality players this summer after the Europa League final heartbreak against Villarreal in Gdansk, Poland.
Owen Hargreaves said that Europa League success would have papered over the numerous problems at Manchester United and that could have stopped the club from signing the players needed to fix the problems. With the failure recorded in the Europa League final, Owen Hargreaves says United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might think he still needs three or four players to get to his required destination of winning major trophies just like the club witnessed during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Manchester United were favourites going into the Europa League final against the Yellow Submarines but that counted for little as the Spaniards emerged victorious after penalties. Villarreal won 11-10 during the penalty shootout thanks to the miss from United goalkeeper David De Gea who had his penalty saved by Geronimo Rulli in sudden death.
Villarreal took the lead in the first half of regular time through leading goalscorer Gerard Moreno before the in-form EdinsonCavani levelled the matters for the Red Devils in the second half. Villarreal rode their luck at times in the second half to take the game to extra time and it paid off with the outcome at the end of penalties after the two teams played 1-1 at the end of 120 minutes.
Hargreaves wants Manchester United to sign a right winger like Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund. According to him, Manchester United were crying out for someone to change the game from the bench in the Europa League final clash with Villarreal. He also want his former club to sign a central defender like Raphael Varaneof Real Madrid or Marquinhos of Paris Saint Germain (PSG) who can play in defence or midfield. Owen Hargreaves also want Manchester United to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.
