Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has called on his former club to strengthen the team in three major positions ahead of the start of the new season. While he was on BT Sports recently, Owen Hargreaves said Manchester United need to sign three quality players if they want to end their run of five years without a single trophy.

According to Owen Hargreaves, Manchester United must strengthen their central defence, central midfield and right wing. The ex-England international stated that his former club should go after Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane or Paris Saint Germain (PSG) player Marquinhos to boost their centre back department. Frenchman Varane has been linked with a move to Old Trafford with reports claiming that he plans to leave Real Madrid this summer. Varane is focused on the Euro 2020 tournament and his future at Real Madrid is expected to be decided afterwards. For Brazilian international Marquinhos, it might be difficult for Manchester United to lure him away from PSG.

In the central midfield position, Owen Hargreaves want Manchester United to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice, while he would like the Red Devils to finally pay the money required to secure the transfer of the highly rated Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund.

West Ham United vice skipper Rice has been the subject of transfer interest from major teams in the Premier League like Chelsea and Manchester United. For Sancho, the Borussia Dortmund winger is the subject of a big bid from Manchester United for Rice. Manchester United have made the first bid of £67m for the England international but it was turned down by the German club. The latest reports claimed that the Red Devils are confident of wrapping up a deal for around £75m for Sancho who’s with the England squad at Euro 2020.
