Owen Hargreaves believes that Manchester City are the favourites to win the Champions League this season ahead of holders Bayern Munich and last season’s finalists Paris Saint Germain (PSG). Owen Hargreaves played for both Manchester City and Bayern Munich during his football career and he has pitched his tent with the Citizens for the destination of the Champions League this season. Owen Hargreaves talked up Manchester City as Champions League favourites while he was on BT Sports as a football pundit. The ex-Manchester United midfielder was impressed with how Manchester City dismissed Borussia Moenchengladbach in the first leg of their last 16 tie. Manchester City beat hosts Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0 with goals from Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus thereby making it 19 wins in a row in all competitions. The recent victory run makes Manchester City the form team in club football in the world. Manchester City have since made it 20 wins after the league win at home to West Ham United. John Stones and Ruben Dias were on target as Manchester City beat the Hammers 2-1, with Michail Antonio netting the lone goal for West Ham United. With the win over the Hammers, Manchester City now have 12 more points than any other team in the league.

ARSENAL DUO FAR FROM GIFTED SAKA

Bukayo Saka has been a shining light for Arsenal in a difficult season up until this point and he has received high praise from ex-Premier League midfielder Owen Hargreaves. According to the former Manchester United and Bayern Munich player, Bukayo Saka is far from other recipients like Willian and Nicholas Pepe on the right side of the Arsenal attack. Owen Hargreaves is certain that the more experienced duo of Nicholas Pepe and Willian are not even close to Bukayo Saka quality-wise on the right side of the Arsenal attack despite the money spent on the two players. Former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves has said that he believes Arsenal manager Mikel Artera can steer his side to Europa League glory with his current crop of players. However, he said that the London club stand a huge chance of lifting the trophy as long as they give precious chance to their young players.

Owen Hargreaves believes his former club Bayern Munich should convince Thiago Alcantara to stay put. The Spain international was one of the club’s standout performers in the recent Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain which they won by a 1-0 scoreline at the Estadio da Luz Stadium in Lisbon.


Following the game, there has been much speculation that Thiago could be on the move, considering he has refused to sign a new contract beyond next season. So far, Bayern have been unable to convince him to renew his deal, but Hargreaves is hopeful that the European champions can find the breakthrough amid the interest from Liverpool, he told BT Sport: “The big one is Thiago, they’ve got to keep him. He was one of the best players on the pitch. ‘Liverpool fans will be watching that and thinking: ‘yes please!’.”

Former England star Owen Hargreaves believes Manchester United have the financial muscle to land the signature of Jadon Sancho despite the current crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic.
